Though the days of its power were brief and
the needful noise that kept the continents
distracted did not pause but grew and crept
into the vintage pens and bowls, the
monkey-picked tea, and while we found
that flavor had abandoned most
local precincts, and yes, there were
those expeditions that were quickly though
poorly equipped and we’re still waiting on
the report with what is reported as
hope though through the long years we have
practiced most of the permitted
poses quite diligently, and mean
no offense with these little shows

it’s often the way when days are
less generous with their light and
walking the dog in trees furry
scents and a noise near or far you
choose to ignore those little hopesfor the weekend with green softness
over the lawn insects float or
dart the breeze that might keep me up
tonight I know it’s not your faultyou know the darkness catches up before
summer gets going I should stop
saying you know you know anywhoo thelast time we met you were spitting
in the eye of some hurricane

but no matter how small I can’t escape the noise
suffer the usual restless pick up A put down A once B calls out put down B when C and so on until only cracks in mud though at each
pause I whittle more of an escape from the wobbly platform if the rabbits will have me but the halting
way it unfolds and snarls is a little hat to
wear while everyone else enjoys
their but one gets tiredof the smudges crumpled computers
scabs shattered windows eating forthe photo binging because it’s
popular but once upon a

before I’ve started I
give up on this little
story surrounded
by the almost noise
of air conditioners
slow unseen aircraft
the last breath of
why can’t I juststop me if you’ve heard this one
but no it’s just
from here we see
trees burning birds
thud to the ground
apartments collapse
spilling canned peas
and plastic dolls into
a stream and clouds
and clouds and clouds
other animals
